Deadline extended for competition

Feeling Upbeat? Then you still have time to win the chance to professional record your song and much, much more.

Cheshire police have extended the closing date for their Upbeat competition. Singers and bands aged 11 to 18 wanting a chance to win the opportunity to professionally record a song, work with a professional designer to create unique artwork and hear their song played on the radio, have until the end of September to submit their entry online.

To enter you need to write, perform and record a three minute song based on one of the Upbeat topics, which can be found online at www.upbeat.uk.com.

Entries can be as a solo singer or part of a band or group and must be original so no cover versions please! The competition is open to anyone aged between 11 and 18, and the entry can be a video or just the audio of the recorded song. If you think you have a good song in your head get some friends together or record it on your own, the recording doesn’t have to be perfect, but it will be if you or your band win the competition.

If you want to get some inspiration, have a look at some of the entries already submitted which range from solo artists singing in their bedroom, to full on performances by bands.

Cheshire Police is organising the competition to highlight a new website that provides a link between police and young people in Cheshire. The site covers a variety of topics and has been designed and written to meet the needs identified by youngsters who, in consultation, had clear ideas on what they wanted from the site.

To enter the competition upload your performance to YouTube or email us the link to your video to upbeat@cheshire.pnn.police.uk by the extended date of September 30th. Alternatively send it to us on DVD/CD at Cheshire Police HQ, Oakmere Road, Winsford, Cheshire CW7 2UA.

The reason why the competition has been extended is to encourage schools, colleges or youth organisations to help out those ‘wannabees’ who don’t have access to equipment to record their song.

If you want to record a song but don’t know how to go about it, seek out help from your teachers when the new term starts and ask for their help. Each entry must be nominated by a responsible adult. The judging panel will consist of a member of Cheshire Constabulary, a studio producer and three young people from local schools.

Full terms and conditions can be found at www.upbeat.uk.com or find us on Facebook.
