Bullying

Bullying can happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime. It could be pushing and pulling in school, name-calling in the street or even abusive emails and texts. You don’t need to put up with anything that hurts you or your feelings.

You'd imagine being Britain's youngest Olympian would make you 'bullyproof'. Not in the case of Tom Daley who recently talked about how his achievements at the Beijing Olympics 2008 led to him being picked on in school.

"After the Olympics it went mad… everyone that you walked past has a little dig. When I was annoyed at school I started to get annoyed at diving"

Bullying directly effected Tom's diving and his blossoming career began to suffer. Instead of shying away from the bullying Tom spoke up about it and along with his parents and the school, dealt with the problem.

Since the problem was dealt with Tom's diving has gone from strength to strength and in the 2009 FINA World Championships, held in Rome, he unexpectedly won the individual 10 m platform title.

Don't let bullies hold you back from reaching your potential

Tell your parents or guardians, tell your teacher, tell your friends. It is much less likely to stop unless you "make some noise"
